This model — the Mid-Size 3x3 — is Top Tier's compact option for Gibson-style headstocks. Rather than shrinking a full-size 3x3 tuner down, the housing was built genuinely compact from the ground up, so a guitar with a smaller Gibson-style headstock doesn't end up feeling front-heavy the way a full-size tuner set can cause. It's the sleek, contemporary counterpart to Top Tier's more traditionally-styled Vintage and Vin-Mod 3x3 families — same engineering standard, built for a more modern look.
What actually makes these "Top Tier" rather than a basic replacement tuner:
- Internal tension washer — fitted at the base of the string post specifically to eliminate "post wiggle," the small amount of play that robs sustain and subtly undermines tuning stability over time on cheaper tuners.
- Nylon washer on the gear shaft — gives the tuning action itself a noticeably smoother, more precise feel under the fingers, rather than the gritty resistance you get from a bare metal-on-metal gear shaft.
- Sealed, die-cast zinc housing — fully encloses the internal gearing, keeping out moisture, hand sweat, and general grime that would otherwise corrode an open-back tuner's mechanism over years of use.
